Chief of Police Aaron Reel
I was born in Peoria Illinois, moved to California in 1975 and later arriving in the Imperial Valley in 1985. I graduated from Central Union High School in 1992, attended the then San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy (32nd class), graduating in 1996 and started as a reserve at the El Centro Police Department. I was hired as a full-time officer the following year in 1997 and continued my law enforcement career which spanned over 25 years. Throughout my career, I held various roles including; Patrol Officer, Narcotic Investigator, Detective Field Training Officer, and SWAT team member. Promoted to Sergeant in 2009, followed by an additional promotion to Police Commander in 2013. I possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from National University. I have also completed executive leadership programs at both the University of Notre Dame and the FBI National Academy.
Captain Max R. Sheffield
Second in command of the Imperial Police Department is Capt. Max Sheffield. Capt. Sheffield began his career with the Department in 2013, after graduating from the Eureka, CA Police Academy. Capt. focused his attention on becoming a Police Officer because of his passion for public service and to promote a safe community environment for residents and businesses. During his career in law enforcement, Sheffield has served as a K9 Officer, Narcotics Detective and Public Information Officer. Prior to his career in law enforcement he was a member of Public Works Department. Sheffield is working to obtain his Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice.
